The Kelpie is descended from several herding dogs, under which the Smooth Collies. These Collies were imported to Australia in the first half of the nineteenth century. The name Kelpie comes from the famous Kings Kelpie, who lived around 1870. Kelpie is celtic for ‘waterspring’ or ‘water ghost’.

The breed has been aknowledged since 1902. The Kelpie is an irreplaceable helping hand in the Australian Cattle- and Sheepfarms. Thanks to its exceptional herding-skills, indefatigable and eager to learn, this breed is indispensable for Australias modern sheepfarm. It’s known tob e a excellent herding- and Obedience dog. It’s warm and hearty. Outside Australia the Kelipe is a rare breed. In the year 2006, there were about 160 Kelpies in Holland.
